Customer Review: I’ve enjoyed this chipper/shredder for the time I’ve had it, probably 12 hours of running.It is pretty easy to put together. . .took me less than an hour by myself. There were a few minor misalignments that a little love pat from my hammer squared away. 20oz of engine oil was included which was a nice surprise. It’s made in China and you can tell when you read the assembly instructions. By and large it is on target but there are a few times where you’ll have to figure out how pieces go together on your own. Pretty basic but not addressed in the manual.It’s not an anvil but it’s not made of eggshells either. Vibrates a bit but bearable. Very easy to cart around. Runs like a top. It has cranked first pull every time. It does require a stout tug to get going but fires right up.As far as operation it will easily eat leaves and small twigs. Vines and dense mats (like root balls) will choke it down a bit. You have to tamp most debris into it (as opposed to just lobbing it in the hopper) although that gets better as you learn what it can and can’t take and how to feed it efficiently. The debris bag is stout and I like the zipper at the bottom to make emptying easy. This thing shreds as advertised: 20:1 and it’s a fine mulch when it comes out. It takes limbs up to 3 inches in the cone but this is the wrong shredder if that’s the bulk of what you want it for. Last operating comment is that it is loud and it is dusty. really dusty.I bought a vacuum attachment for it as well from Earthquake. I’m not sure what the relationship is between Earthquake and TAZZ but the vacuum said it worked with this and the lid doesn’t fit the hopper. Sent that back.Overall very happy with this purchase and it is making some fine mulch/compost for my landscape beds.Update: Just ran it for the 5th or 6th time and the center bolt that holds the blade assembly sheared off. I’ll leave my 4 star rating for now and see how they do on standing behind their product/customer service.

Customer Review: Great chipper for the price, very heavy-built, and a simple design. Much easier to access the blades and grease points than others I’ve seen. Belt-driven, so easier to start, too. Briggs engine has plenty of power. I’ve had no issues with it (yet), but haven’t used it that many hours to date. . . I’ve used this for going on 3 years now, with no real issues. I did do away with the OSHA flap because it just caused clogs, as others have mentioned. It works best with green wood for me, not dried-out; regardless of what others have said. Most problems of clogging can be avoided with not over-feeding the machine. It’s not a huge, commercial one, like you see being crammed with branches as fast as they can. . .The only real problem I’ve had is with the original tires-can’t keep air in them, having to always air them up before use. I’m replacing them with flat-free, so that really has nothing to do with the machine itself. I would more than likely buy one again, considering the cost savings over other brands.

Customer Review: This is the first major item as far as expense that I have purchased online at Amazon. I did several hours of online research and this little jewel as stated by reviews from numerous websites is a good bang for the buck. I’m a bit older so it took me a little while between reading the directions to ensure I didn’t miss anything; actual assembly in total about 3 hours. . .PROS: Definitely beefy! I read some reviews talking about big, bulky, hard to move… In my opinion its built right, and relatively easy to move and looks to be very mobile; maybe others did not tilt it far enough down ensuring based cleared the ground. It is built very solid, great heavy duty commercial level paint one would see on farm equipment. . .FOLLOW UP TO ORIGINAL: Ok, so I fired this up it took a few minutes to engage the clutch without stalling the engine…likely my fault. After using I would agree with the reviewer that stated use it on seasoned wood clippings as the fruit tree trimming I put in the chute frequently clogged it and stopped the engine. I had to loosen the large nut w/phillips head screw retainer to allow me to flip the exit funnel so I could get to the material that clogged the machine about 10 times. A bit frustrating, but LIKELY due to the fact that the trimmings were green and small resulting in spitting out 8-12 pieces of the smaller branch ends. . .I again reiterate this thing is very easy to move around and I did so parallel to my garden area to ensure chips were evenly spread…simple to do and feel this machine is a keeper….starts very easy as well.

Customer Review: The CJ603E is a simple, easy-to-operate chipper that produces decent wood chips quickly. There are a few consumer-created videos out there; I recommend watching them, they do a better job giving an honest analysis of the device than a write-up can. I’ll get into some finer points below for anyone who finds them useful, but the TLDR is: The machine works great, just make sure you set it up correctly, don’t skimp on the wire gauge of your extension cord (super important – if you read one thing below, make it that) and keep the rotor cleared out. If you have any issues with the device, give Sun Joe a call. They pick up their phone, a real human talks with you, and they bend over backwards to get you up and running. EXCEPTIONAL customer service. . .In short, this device is a great deal that may not last long. I’d get one while you can, set it up properly and use it for a long, long time.

Customer Review: I bought this chipper to replace a Sun Joe CJ602 with a burnt-out motor. I’ve also used an Earthwise 15-amp chipper with a similar design and similar capabilities to the CJ602.Here’s the bottom line: the CJ603E is a better chipper than either of those models, but with a few notable caveats and a bit of a learning curve to get the most out of it. I’ve been chipping branches right up to the maximum that will fit through the feeder and it hasn’t complained. I’ve even been feeding it entire 6′ trees (all at once) without a problem.The biggest upside to this thing is that it’s extremely hard to jam the grinding wheel. With the Earthwise and the CJ602, I’d spend a ton of time opening the machines up to remove a jammed branch. It’d happen at least once or twice an hour, which was incredibly frustrating when trying to clear a lot of brush. . .Sizing may also be an issue for some people. As mentioned, you’re not getting a shredder. Small twigs, leaves, etc. won’t produce good results. You can put them through, but you’ll get the best output if you shove a whole bunch through at once instead of feeding them individually. . .At the end of the day, this machine is great for homeowners that need to clear brush or just deal with general yard waste. I’ve been using it to clear almost an acre of land and it’s been a champ. You aren’t going to get it to eat 2″ branches and there’s a bit of a learning curve to chipping up small twigs, but it ultimately gets the job done reliably with decent enough results. A gas chipper will be worlds better, but the CJ603E is smaller, easier to set up, cheaper, and perfect for what it claims to do.

Customer Review: This electric wood chipper was a terrific purchase. I just finished cutting down a 27-year old, 140-foot long, 20-foot wide, 12′ high, Double File Viburnum hedge (see photo of first 40 feet removed). This chipper efficiently dispatched all branches 2″ in diameter or less, and I ended up with approximately 7 yards of chips to be used as garden mulch. Here are some thoughts:1) Follow the user manual!2) Use 20-amp circuit3) If you feed large limbs too quickly, it will blow your fuse.4) I live in a residential area, and my neighbors love the machine, because it is quiet.5) The bagger that comes with the machine works great.6) Its extremely convenient to use and exceptionally well built3/31/2020 update: this is my fifth year and it still is going strong! I have no complaints. So why does it work so well with only an 1 HP electric motor. The answer is it has a very heavy flywheel (approx 50 lbs.) and it has only one cutter blade attached to its circumference; the design is pure genius. When handling heavier limbs 1 to 2 inches in diameter, don’t feed it in fast. Go “feed one second —pause one second, feed one second, pause one second,… until it is through. Believe me, I have at lease 40 hours on this machine (and perhaps more)—if you don’t rush feeding larger limbs, it will not struggle and the work will get done quicker than you would think. Another thing: I bag my chips to use these as mulch around the garden. Don’t wait until the bag gets too full! If you allow the bag to become completely full, the chips will back up discharge shoot and clogo the machine, and believe me, you don’t want that. You’ll have to clear out the blockage. After clogging the machine several times when first using it, I learned my lesson, and have not clogged up the machine in several years.7/9/2023 update. This is my 8th year using the machine, and it is still running flawlessly. Are use it several times a year, because I have a large yard and do a lot of pruning. Last week, I had to cut down a 12 foot cherry tree, and most of the limbs, 2 inches in diameter or less easily fed through the machine in less than one hour. I ended up with four large bags of wood chips. In the fall I use the top hopper to shred leaves to spread as mulch on my flower garden. The only thing that I’ve had to do to the machine is sharpen the cutter blade and put grease into its bearing. I do this every two or three years, which is very easy to do.6/11/2024 update. This year I really used it heavily, producing about 80 cubic feet of wood chips. I’ve used this product now for the ninth season and love it. Just remember not to be in a rush to chip; take your time, and you will get good results. Keep in mind that you need a 20 amp circuit with an extension cord properly rated for that current.

Customer Review: I’m glad I bought this wood chipper. It was important to me to get one with an electric motor because I thought I’d use it infrequently and thought the electric motor would be easier to maintain.So far, the only maintenance I’ve done has been to sharpen the blade. I used my Dremel to do the sharpening. One nice touch from Patriot is that they provide the Allen wrench necessary to remove the blade.One improvement I suggest to Patriot is that they make it easier to clean out clogs. This is the only reason I’m rating at 4 stars instead of 5. It takes me over 15 minutes to unclog. I think all the clogs have been my fault. Most frequently clogs occurred because I didn’t empty the collection bag early enough. Also, I’ve clogged the chipper if I put too many green leaves in the leaf hopper. I also clogged the chipper once by putting in cactus.Wood chips from the chipper are about the size of a dime. I like to use these on the paths of my garden. Dried leaves in the hopper come out pulverized and are great for compost. Very small sticks of about ¼ inch or less come out broken but don’t pulverize like the leaves or chip.I was worried about having problems with my circuit breaker but am very happy with how things are going. If the wood chipper is clogged, the circuit breaker will pop. If I push in a large branch I can make the breaker pop. But if I put in a large branch I can hear the flywheel start to slow down and pull out the branch a bit, let it speed up and everything works great. I’ve been using an outlet on a 20 amp circuit breaker. The directions said to use a 12 gauge extension cord but I bought a beefier one.This wood chipper is small and you need to feed in items to be shredded slowly. For example, you would not be able to dump in a large bag of leaves. You would need to feed them in a handful or 2 at a time. I don’t have the vacuum kit and don’t know how that works. The manual says you can chip sticks of up to 2.5″ in diameter and I guess you can but I think that is pushing the limits.Assembly was really easy and the packaging was very good.
